The Southdown Sheep Society is pleased to confirm that the 2023 National Southdown Show will take place at the Lincolnshire Show on June 21st-22nd.

The dispersal of the Glaves’ family’s Brompton flock claimed the leading prices at the Southdown Sheep Society’s second sale of the year at Melton Mowbray when Brompton 19/04829 set a new aged ewe record for the breed at 1500gns.

The Food and Farming Discovery Trust teamed up with Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership and Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association to help young people once again learn about livestock.

The latest round of results from AHDB’s RamCompare progeny test project have once again shown the value Southdown sires can add to their lambs in commercial settings.

The Southdown, in spite of its good looks, easy temperament and tasty meat, is primarily classified as a Terminal Sire Breed to be used by commercial farmers on their crossbred ewes to produce meaty lambs.
